The Board of CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation has elected Marko Ahtisaari as its new Chair. He succeeds Alexander Stubb as the Chair of the Board. Stubb was elected as the new President of the Republic last Sunday.

Marko Ahtisaari has been a member of the CMI Board since 2021. His previous positions include artistic director of the Helsinki Festival, head of product design at Nokia, and CEO of two start-up companies. He has also served on the boards of F-Secure and Artek.

“I accept the role of Board Chair with enthusiasm and gratitude. CMI has become one of the world’s leading peace mediators. As Chair, I want to ensure that CMI’s capacity to act in this volatile global context is maintained. That is why the Peace Fund’s collection is a key objective of the Board”, said Marko Ahtisaari.

Individuals, businesses and organisations can commemorate President Ahtisaari’s life’s work by making a donation to the Martti Ahtisaari Peace Fund to support CMI’s activities.

CMI warmly congratulates the incoming President of Finland, Alexander Stubb. We thank him for the past six years and wish him every success in his demanding job as President of the Republic. The most important task of a President is to maintain peace.

Stubb served as CMI’s Board Chair since January 2018. He was nominated by President Ahtisaari as his successor at the helm of the Board. During his tenure, CMI has almost doubled its activities and its conflict resolution work has expanded to Asia and to digital peace mediation. In 2021, the organisation became a foundation and adopted a new 10-year strategy.

“I am proud of CMI’s development and growth over these six years,” said Alexander Stubb. “It has been a real privilege to continue Martti Ahtisaari’s life’s work in peace mediation. My warmest thanks to the CMI team and partners with whom this success has been built together.”

Martti Ahtisaari founded CMI in 2000. Since then, the Finnish organisation has become one of the world’s leading peace mediators. CMI is now active in more than 20 countries.
