Sudan

On 15 April 2023, tension between Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) culminated in the outbreak of war, which has spiraled Sudan into an ongoing humanitarian and political crisis.

Our work

CMI has been engaged in Sudan since 2020, initially supporting efforts related to a democratic transition and a broader peace process in the country, while addressing root causes to the conflict in Sudan, as well as women’s meaningful participation.

Since April 2023, CMI has utilised digital technology such as artificial intelligence to conduct broad-based consultations and digital dialogues with stakeholders across the country. One of CMI’s main priorities in Sudan is to build trust, consensus and capacities among political groups, around key issues related to a ceasefire agreement and the resumption of a political process, in support of ongoing multilateral mediation efforts. CMI also continues to provide Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support to women, within the framework of leadership and peacemaking.

Key results

CMI has created spaces for inclusive dialogue among key political groups and actors and provided technical support and capacities on key issues related to a ceasefire and a political process. Over 60 Sudanese women leaders in the diaspora have received Mental Health and Psycho-Social support.
