Oskari Eronen has been appointed as the new Chief Programme Officer of CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation. He will take up his new appointment on 10 June.
Eronen has nearly 20 years of experience in international conflict and peace mediation. He has worked for CMI in various capacities since 2012 and has led its Asia programme for the past six years.
He succeeds Ville Brummer, who is on leave from his position as Chief Programme Officer. Brummer joined President Alexander Stubb‘s cabinet in March as Director of Peace Mediation.
The Chief Programme Officer is responsible for planning and implementing CMI’s programmes and is also a member of the CMI Leadership Team.
Eronen stresses that in a volatile global context, mediation is needed now more than ever. Geopolitical tensions have increased, and parties are increasingly seeking to settle disputes by force. “The road to peace has become increasingly difficult. Conflict parties need mediators like CMI to help them find peaceful solutions.”
