Season’s Greetings from our CEO Janne Taalas: The past year has demonstrated that work for peace is inceasingly needed

Published on Tuesday, 21st of December 2021

Dear friends of CMI,

It has been a difficult year for all of us. Not only has COVID-19 wreaked havoc, but conflicts have also been increasingly resolved with military means. Multilateral organisations are struggling to deal with challenges they face. The space for parties to reach negotiated settlements is diminishing due to mistrust.

The past year has demonstrated that the work of CMI, its partners and its peers is increasingly needed and makes a difference. This year, CMI has facilitated a variety of dialogues, bolstered the efforts of many of our partners and searched for innovative ways to resolve conflicts.

I warmly thank my colleagues at CMI for their dedication and hard work this year. Next year we will push even harder to make our new strategy a reality.

On behalf of all of us at CMI, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our three programme partners, Finland, Sweden, and Ireland, as well as our implementing partners at the EU, AU, and OSCE for your cooperation and support. We are also thankful for the other close partners and friends with whom we work to advance the cause of peace.

I wish you a peaceful holiday season and all the best for 2022 may peace prevail in the world!

Janne Taalas
