A Strategic Revision for CMI

Since the inception of CMI’s Strategy 2030 in 2021, both the external landscape and CMI’s internal operations have evolved significantly and there is a need to review the strategic direction.

“Since 2021 when our current strategy was initiated, the world has seen a remarkable change—both in the political and peacemaking landscape. We needed to reassess our position in this new world order, recognizing not only the challenges but also the opportunities that the current situation presents for peacemaking. We need to respond to the growing diversity of actors in peace mediation and key societal changes affecting peace processes, including demographic imbalances”, says Janne Taalas, CEO of CMI.

The vision, mission, and principles outlined in Strategy 2030 remain as relevant as ever. However, through an inclusive review process involving all CMI staff, six complementary areas were identified to bring significant benefits to CMI’s work: bridging gaps and strengthening multilateralism, strengthening youth in peacemaking, leveraging artificial intelligence, reinforcing expertise, broadening the funding base, and reaching new audiences.
