Ukraine
CMI has nearly fifteen years of experience working in Ukraine and has supported Ukraine’s efforts for lasting peace in different phases of the conflict. Thus, since the outbreak of the conflict in 2014, CMI focused on the Donbas peace process, supporting international negotiations as well as strengthening Ukraine’s capacity to participate in conflict prevention and resolution processes. CMI’s work has also focused on building Ukraine’s national consensus towards the reintegration process. Following the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022, CMI has been supporting Ukrainian actors in dealing with the immediate, mid- and long-term consequences of the war.
Our work
Sustaining Ukraine’s resilience and social cohesion towards the emerging risks and the consequences of the war: CMI is currently working within the framework of the National Platform for Resilience and Social Cohesion, which was established in 2018. Following the full-scale invasion, the central role of the National Platform has been to support, advance and advocate for initiatives aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s resilience and social cohesion, qualities which have been fundamental to Ukraine’s war effort and will be essential for sustainable peace. Through an inclusive process that brings together different parties, CMI, together with Ukrainian partners, has been developing and integrating approaches grounded in resilience and social cohesion into Ukrainian agenda and advancing dialogue between all parts of society at local, regional and national levels.
Enhancing Ukrainian global partnerships: In the current increasingly polarized and volatile global arena, Ukraine faces challenges to develop more systematic outreach and engagement across the world. In this context, it is important to consolidate the capacities of a wider set of Ukrainian actors, as well as to provide dialogue opportunities that could facilitate entry points for direct and deeper exchanges contributing to sustainable peace and strengthening long-term partnerships founded on mutual interest. Together with Ukrainian and global partners, CMI works to strengthen shared understanding and relationship among actors from Ukraine and Global partners on mutual priorities related to the consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and prerequisites of sustainable peace. The action takes place in Ukraine and globally – in selected countries of Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East.
