CMI holds latest meeting of High Level Expert Dialogue Group in Ukraine

On 16 and 17 October 2015, CMI held another in an ongoing series of regular meetings of the High Level Expert Dialogue Group which has operated with CMI’s support since July 2014.

The meetings were held in and near Kyiv, Ukraine.  The Dialogue Group involved in the long term process supported by CMI includes senior members of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament’s) parliamentary groups, heads of think tanks, representatives of major corporations and local government, who together represent a broad spectrum of political views and opinions from different parts of the country, including Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

The October dialogue sessions were focused on analysis and evaluation of the implementation of the “Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements”.

The discussion considered the broader political context in which the Package of Measures was being implemented, as well as specific points of the Package of Measures on which the Dialogue Group decided to focus its analysis and the development of joint recommendations.

Next meetings of the dialogue group are scheduled for November 2015.

The finalized recommendations will be delivered to participants of the Trilateral Contact Group and the Normandy format as well as other key stakeholders domestically and internationally.  The analytical dialogue will continue at the next series of meetings of the Dialogue Group which are scheduled for November 2015.

As part of its ongoing analysis of various international experiences in the fields of conflict resolution and political dialogue, the Dialogue Group was also briefed regarding the experience of the peace process in Aceh, Indonesia by high level international experts who were involved in that peace process. A number of other Ukrainian stakeholders were also briefed regarding the experience and lessons learnt from the Aceh peace process on this occasion.
