Published on Tuesday, 16th of June 2015

On 6 June, CMI organised a workshop in Istanbul to discuss Libya’s natural resources and the constitutional process. The event, jointly organised the Libyan Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA), brought together influential actors from the country including political representatives, members of parliament, municipal council officials, civil society actors, and the chairman of the CDA’s natural resources committee.

The event was organised in order to provide key recommendations to the constitutional drafting process based on a current draft released by the natural resources committee. The active discussions during the event centered around Libya’s constitutional process as well as on natural resources and their potential for building peace. Natural resources were seen a very important by the participants. They considered it vital that the draft constitution would include a dedicated section on natural resources.
