President Ahtisaari to Attend the Inaugural Ceremony of Namibian President-Elect

President Martti Ahtisaari and Mrs. Eeva Ahtisaari are set to attend the Namibian President-Elect Hage Geingob’s inaugural ceremony. At the same time Namibia will celebrate its 25 years of independence. The events are held in Namibia’s capital city Windhoek on 20–21 March.
President Ahtisaari served as Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for Namibia from 1978 to 1988. He also led the UN operation in Namibia 1989–90. The operation led to the country’s independence from South Africa in 1990.
Martti and Eeva Ahtisaari are honorary citizens of Namibia.
